Anchor Graphics
25 Years of Printmaking
October 17, 2019 - January 24, 2020
Celebrating Anchor Graphics’ work as an important center for printmaking and their ten-year partnership with Columbia College Chicago.
The exhibition celebrates Anchor Graphics’ work as an important center for printmaking and their ten-year partnership with Columbia College Chicago. The exhibition features artworks created through two of Anchor Graphics’ central programs: Published Editions, where artists collaborated with Master Printers David Jones and Chris Flynn; and the Artist in Residence program, which provided uninterrupted studio access to printmakers from all over the United States.
Founded in 1990 by David Jones and Marilyn Propp, Anchor Graphics was a non-profit fine art press that brought together a diverse community of youth, emerging and established artists, and the general public to advance the fine art of printmaking. Anchor Graphics‘ mission was also to inspire young artists through exposure to creative processes, people, and possibilities.
Anchor Graphics became a program of the Art + Design Department within Columbia College Chicago’s School of Fine and Performing Arts from 2006 until 2016, continuing to integrate education with the creation of prints. The Anchor archive of nearly four-hundred print works is housed in the Art and Art History Department and continues to be a valuable teaching and learning resource to Columbia’s students, faculty, and staff.
