Open Letter: We Are Not Surprised
1,800+ Women and Non-Binary Art Professionals
October 30, 2017
We Are Not Surprised is one of the first letters written after the #MeToo movement gained traction on Twitter in October 2017. The movement was founded by Tarana Burke in 2006 to empower survivors of sexual assault and condemn sexual harassment in the art industry. Open Letters are becoming a major tool used by activists to expose racism while addressing lack of diversity, nepotism, pay disparity, misogyny, sexual abuse, and the rise of contract work in the overall workforce.
