Sole Provider explores the realities of single parenthood, focusing on the bond between parent and child. The work reflects the 23% of U.S. children raised by a single parent, compared to just 7% worldwide, highlighting strength and resilience in challenging circumstances.

Photography MFA, ‘25

Emma Bolas (she/her) is a photographer from the Chicago suburbs, whose work reveals not only her and her family’s experiences, but others as well. The work represents the struggles and coping, with themes such as mental health, parental issues, and trauma that occurs from these exposures. The work uses staged and dramatic light scenes. Emma graduated from Columbia College Chicago, with her BFA in Fine Arts.
