“Past the goriness and absurd premise, at its core, the film is about loving and accepting love, without any facades or masks - as your true authentic self.”
Artist Statement
Appealing Me was created over a year of creative collaboration as it developed from concept to finished short film. In total, the project was completed by over 100 cast and crew members.
The film, set in the neon glow of a local gay bar, follows Max, and anxious young adult yearning for love despite his crippling self-doubt. After fumbling his flirtation attempt with the charming Sam, Max retreats to the bar’s grimy bathroom, crushed by embarrassment, and confronts his reflection with disdain, slowly revealing this deepest secret - his raw skinless form hidden by peel-off faces.
