i don’t want to

About the Project

'i don’t want to' is about my coming to terms with existing in the world and my altering presence. The work is about failure and how to accept it, or live with it rather, having a presence in our lives. I’ve always felt drawn to the lake here in the city, but from a distance, to look out over the water and see nothing, it feels comforting.

The failure to perform during the daylight, only feeling comfortable being hidden behind the darkness of the night. Floating in and out of consciousness. Do we hear and see the same things?

I don’t want to forget this moment. I am just now feeling like myself, but there is still so far to go, I don’t want to wait anymore. I let it go longer than it should, there is no correct amount. Referencing, referencing, I feel too tired to stay up. I stare out, at myself, I am all alone. Maybe another day we can see each other. I don’t want to keep you waiting.

About iph Lange

iph is an interdisciplinary artist with a focus on performance, incorporating movement throughout a multitude of medias. They currently live in Chicago, Illinois, and work in live performance, video, sculpture, installation, sound, printmaking, and writing. Their practice is as much critique and theory-based as it is self-expression, for everything exists all at the same time, and there is no separation.

“iph uses their body as a site for endurance, contemplation, and social pressure and surrounds that body with light, sound, image,s and objects that both support it, undermine it, and are simultaneously supported and undermined by it. Deliberate and ritualized movement gives way to unbridled emotion and ferocity. The seductiveness of draped and folded fabric creates a ‘sea’ in which the body rises and falls. As viewers, we cannot be neutral on the site of this work.”
