Dr. Billeaux From Urinetown: The Musical
About the Project
Urinetown: The Musical is “a musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, municipal politics and musical theatre itself” (Broadway Musical). Dr. Billeaux is one of this world’s most prestigious mad scientists, a true unlit luminary who slithered their way up to the steepest peaks of greed. This piece was inspired by the ageless silhouettes of medical wear, with particular detailing referencing laboratory gowns and straitjackets.
This piece debuted at Columbia College Chicago’s Urinetown production in 2020, directed by Stephanie Shaw and with music direction by Andra Velis Simon.

“Jakob is my choice for this award largely because he designed creative and unique costumes for our Main Stage production of Urine Town. Due to Covid, that show got one performance. Jakob has created well-crafted designs throughout his time at Columbia.
Urine Town should have been celebrated as his capstone. I would like his work on that show to be seen.”
