Rae Breazeale
"This collection celebrates the beauty of interdependence, exploring how even the smallest interactions, like a brush of skin or a shared space, can create lasting bonds."
Concept Statement
Symbiosis: Mutualism delves into the profound, yet often unnoticed, connections that weave human lives together. Inspired by the concept of symbiosis, where organisms coexist and rely on one another for survival, this collection envisions the human experience as a tapestry of interconnected relationships, both visible and invisible.
In the microbial world, symbiotic relationships create balance and harmony. Similarly, humans depend on unseen connections, both biological and emotional, to thrive. This collection celebrates the beauty of interdependence, exploring how even the smallest interactions, like a brush of skin or a shared space, can create lasting bonds. Our microbiomes, like threads in a shared fabric, intermingle and support one another, forming a collective ecosystem.
The designs in Symbiosis: Mutualism feature intricate layers, organic patterns, and interwoven textiles that symbolize these invisible ties. Each garment tells a story of mutual exchange, cooperation, and unity. This collection invites us to reflect not just on how we connect, but on how deeply those connections shape who we are, emphasizing the symbiotic nature of human relationships and the shared spaces we inhabit. It serves as a reminder that we are stronger together, each of us a vital strand in the intricate fabric of life.
