“Wanderer is born from fragments of my childhood memories, exploring a period of time when my relationship with the closest person to me began to shift into an unknown future.”

Artist Statement

Wanderer tells the story of the loneliness of two family members within their own home. The story follows Niên, a 13-year-old boy whose main job is digging sand to make a living on a nearby river. After a tragic event in the past, Niên's grandmother, Nghiêm, has been raising her grandson alone. Nghiêm harbors deep emotional repression, and her Alzheimer's disease has made her grow increasingly distant from her grandson.

Returning home on a hot afternoon, Niên discovers his grandmother has gone missing. A surge of worry fills him, urging him to search for her. Niên embarks on a long journey from their rural village, until he reaches the city—a completely foreign place for him. This isn’t the first time Nghiêm has gone missing; it feels like just another ordinary day for Niên. We follow Niên with a sense of anticipation and the feeling that Nghiêm could appear at any moment, anywhere.
