No Time 2 Waste
Project Statement
No Time 2 Waste is an art-athon that was designed to raise money for and awareness of The Trevor Project, the leading national organization focused on crisis intervention and suicide prevention for LGBTQ youth. Individuals and organized groups of up to ten people signed-up to partake in this 26.2-hour dash to design, create, and complete a project in their medium of choice. Such mediums included, but were not limited to: a short film, short musical, poetry, painting, comedy sketch, dance, etc. At the start of the event, each individual/group was randomly assigned a statistic from the Trevor Project’s 2020 National Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health. The statistic each was assigned formed the basis of each individual’s/group’s project. One week after project completion, the top three entries were showcased, in-person, at the Roxy in Lockport, IL.
Artist Biography
I am a composer, pianist, flautist, and community organizer who primarily writes classical-esque music. My works convey fantastical, often dramatized, adventures -telling stories in a language everyone understands, but for which no one has a direct, linguistic translation. For listeners, I seek to evoke an eagerness to discover the story in the organized sounds and inspire a curiosity of music’s innate power to arouse emotional response. I was recently inspired to take on the role of community organizer in order to plan and facilitate the event ‘No Time 2 Waste’ to raise money for The Trevor Project and to educate my community about LGBTQ youth mental health.
