 Project Statement

In this Columbia College Chicago MFA thesis film written and directed by Yihan Lin, a woman constantly dreams about her deceased son prior to her grandson departing to work abroad. Together, they embark on a journey to find a psychic. Yesterday I Was the Moon incarnates the inner landscapes of an elderly woman living in a southern, Chinese fishing village. Amidst the overwhelming waves of technologization, she maunders through her changing habitat with sorrow, bewilderment, and eventually peace.

 Artist biography

Yihan Lin is a Chinese filmmaker based in Shanghai. Born and raised in Fuzhou which is a coastal city in southern China, Yihan dwells on the stunning natural landscape and mysterious folk tales. Her work mainly explores subtle relationships between humans and space in the contemporary context. Her 2019 short film, "Anchor" was featured in the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival Short Film Market and Blow-up International Arthouse Film fest. Her 2020 short film titled, "Inside and Outside the Wall" premiered at the 2021 Slamdance Film Festival.
