“A Place to Sit”
Concept StatementChairs are a seemingly mundane everyday experience, but they are made to provide comfort for the body, a lull before standing again. Similarly, dressing is an everyday act that we do not pay much mind to. As we age, the daily tasks of sitting, standing, and dressing become more difficult, but they still remain in the realm of subconscious thought.
This collection invites the audience to take notice of the chairs they own; the relationships we create with our garments, and further, our relationship with ourselves as we age. We can ask ourselves what we deem worthy of preservation, finding comfort knowing aging does not have to be natural or untouched to hold beauty. Ultimately, noticing the quiet intimacy between the objects we own and our bodies to embrace the nature of aging.
When is a chair not a chair?
When is a garment not a garment?
And when is “old” not old?
