“The Hours”
Concept StatementThis collection is the visualization of the auditory sensation of the album Bloom by Beach House into the physical form of fashion. Through juxtaposing colors, fabric manipulations, and embellishments I am contrasting internal tension to colorful stain glass windows. Ruching adds tension to the garments as a way to contrast the joyous stain glass imagery as seen through jogakbo, a Korean patchwork technique, and embellishments made out of pieces of stained glass.
This music’s composition represents the feeling of saudade, the bittersweet feeling of longing for a person, place, or experience as a combination of happiness and grief through memory. Music is a powerful trigger for beautiful memories. I see the state of remembrance as a strange paradise of light shining through stained glass windows juxtaposed with feeling of the moment when a memory aches.
