“Dalin Nelson’s Being Alive was one of only two undergraduate advanced productions that were able to be produced and directed during Spring and Fall 2020. Being Alive was in the field on March 11, 2020 when the notice came in that the college was going to shut down in-person instruction due to the emerging coronavirus pandemic. After conferring with the CTVA and SMACC administration, the production was allowed to complete principal photography at that time.
With the threat of an historic global crisis as a backdrop, Dalin was able to provide solid leadership for his cast and crew as they worked to complete the film in as safe an environment as possible while still maintaining focus on directing a cinematic story. As a result, Being Alive delivers excellent screen performances and effectively tells the complex story of a girl’s deeper understanding of her parents and what is means to live in the complex world of adulthood.”
